Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on residents to uphold unity, peace, and mutual understanding as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr across the country.
The Governor made the call on Monday while receiving a Sallah homage from the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Little Rayfield in Jos.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Mutfwang urged citizens to sustain the moral and spiritual lessons of Ramadan, noting that the fasting period promotes values such as compassion, discipline, and fear of God, which are essential for societal growth and peaceful coexistence.
He emphasized the importance of interfaith harmony, describing shared engagements such as Iftar as avenues for strengthening trust and building lasting relationships among diverse communities. According to him, genuine interaction helps to eliminate fear and misunderstanding among people of different faiths.
Reflecting on the state’s history, the Governor acknowledged past challenges but expressed optimism over ongoing efforts to foster unity and reconciliation. He stressed that violence and reprisals cannot bring lasting solutions, urging citizens to exercise restraint and embrace peaceful dialogue in resolving conflicts.
Governor Mutfwang also commended Muslim leaders in the state for their role in maintaining peace during periods of tension, noting that their interventions have contributed significantly to stability in communities, including areas affected by recent security concerns.
He further disclosed that over 1,100 intending pilgrims from Plateau State are expected to participate in the 2026 Hajj exercise, with the government providing necessary support to facilitate their journey.
Earlier, the Emir of Wase and Chairman of JNI in Plateau State, Alhaji Muhammad Sambo, lauded the Governor’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to promoting peace and development across the state.
He noted that Ramadan teaches patience, sacrifice, and compassion, values which are critical to building a harmonious society. The JNI Chairman also appreciated the state government’s support through Ramadan palliatives, infrastructural development, and provision of vehicles to traditional rulers.
While reaffirming the support of the Muslim community to the administration, he appealed for additional logistical assistance, including the provision of a bus to enhance JNI operations across the state.
The event featured the exchange of kolanuts as a symbol of unity and goodwill among participants.
