Preparations have reached a fever pitch at Benford International School, Abuja, as students intensify training ahead of the school’s much-anticipated Inter-House Sports competition and the launch of its “Play, Swim and Grow” fund-raising campaign.
For weeks, the school grounds have been transformed into a hub of energy and discipline, with pupils participating in rigorous rehearsals, selection heats, and practice sessions across a wide range of sporting activities.
The event, scheduled for March 28, 2026, will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium beginning at 9:00 a.m., bringing together students, parents, alumni, staff, invited schools, youth organisations, and distinguished guests.
Highlights of the day will include a colourful march-past by the competing houses, youth organisations, and invited schools, alongside track and field events and novelty competitions.
The occasion will also feature the official launch of the “Play, Swim and Grow” campaign, aimed at raising funds for modern playground equipment and the construction of a standard swimming pool.
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ambassador Benaoyagha Okoyen, said the level of preparation among students reflects both enthusiasm and commitment.
“Our children have been fully engaged in weeks of intensive rehearsals and competitive heats. From football to table-tennis, javelin to shot put, and the ever-exciting march-past and calisthenics displays, the dedication has been truly remarkable,” he said.
Amb. Okoyen noted that the process has not only prepared the students for competition but has also strengthened their character and teamwork.
“What we are witnessing goes beyond sports. The discipline, resilience, and teamwork the students are developing through these rehearsals are invaluable life skills.
"Every child has found a space to participate, contribute, and grow.”
He further highlighted the inclusiveness of the activities, noting that every student has been actively involved in one event or another.
“It has been inspiring to see the level of participation across board. Whether on the field, on the track, or in coordinated group performances like callisthenics, the students have shown enthusiasm and a strong sense of belonging.”
Speaking on the fund-raising initiative, Amb. Okoyen reiterated the school’s commitment to holistic education.
“The ‘Play, Swim and Grow’ campaign is a natural extension of what we are already seeing — children eager to explore their physical potential.
"With improved facilities like modern playground equipment and a standard swimming pool, we can further nurture their talents and promote healthy living.”
He called on parents, alumni, corporate organisations, and the general public to support the initiative and attend the event.
