The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has dismissed claims that its leadership or the state governor has endorsed or anointed preferred candidates ahead of forthcoming elections, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the Kaduna State APC Chairman, Hon. Atiku Sankey, the party said it had become aware of “unscrupulous elements” spreading baseless rumours intended to create disharmony and disaffection within its ranks.
The statement clarified that allegations suggesting the party leadership or Uba Sani had endorsed specific individuals for elective positions were unfounded. It stressed that the APC remains committed to democratic principles, equity, fairness, and internal democracy.
According to the party, the emergence of candidates for elective positions would strictly follow the provisions of the party constitution and Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act, either through direct primaries or consensus among aspirants. The APC noted that while consensus is a legitimate and constitutionally recognised option aimed at fostering unity and reducing intra-party contestation, it should not be misconstrued as imposition or anointing of candidates.
The party emphasized that neither its leadership nor the governor had anointed any individual for any position, reiterating its commitment to providing a level playing field for all aspirants.
It urged members and the general public to disregard the rumours and avoid circulating unauthorised information capable of undermining party unity. The APC also warned that it would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any individual or group whose actions could bring the party into disrepute.
The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to discipline, unity, and democratic processes as it prepares for future electoral activities.
