In a display of interfaith unity, Christian leaders joined Muslim faithful at the Murtala Mohammed Square Eid praying ground in Kaduna to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, strengthening peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance in Nigeria.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, led a delegation of Christian scholars and pastors to the ground, marking the fifth consecutive year of such participation.
"We are here to wish you Barka da Sallah and to strengthen good relationships," Pastor Buru said shortly after the Eid prayers.
He called on Nigerians to embrace peace, love, and unity for the nation's progress: "Nigeria can achieve its full potential when we work together and embrace peace."
The cleric congratulated Muslims on the successful Sallah celebration and prayed for continued peace and prosperity. He also extended greetings to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, and other prominent Islamic leaders.
Addressing thousands of Muslim faithful, Pastor Buru noted that Sallah celebrations provide a vital opportunity for Christians and Muslims to interact, build friendships, and promote national unity. "We must remember that we are one family under God, worshipping the same Creator. Both the Qur'an and the Bible are holy books sent by one God," he urged.
Prominent attendees included former Kaduna State Governor Alhaji (Dr.) Ramalan Yero, top politicians, Islamic scholars, traditional leaders, women, and children.
Other Christian leaders, including Pastor Rawland Sanda from Southern Kaduna, as well as John, Moses, and Madam Grace, emphasized the importance of promoting peace, understanding, and cooperation among different faith groups. Pastor Sanda noted, "This is not the first time we are visiting the mosque with a team of pastors to strengthen relationships with Muslim clerics."
In response, Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Habib Umar Mahmood, expressed deep appreciation: "You are truly unique, and may God bless you abundantly."
Similarly, Mallam Sanusi Surajo, a member of the Eid praying ground committee, commended Kaduna State for promoting religious tolerance and called on the Federal Government to consider Pastor Buru for a national award in recognition of his commitment to peace, unity, and religious harmony across Nigeria.
