The Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations' Forum (CDAs Forum) has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Naridon community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, describing it as a senseless massacre and calling for immediate government intervention.
In a press statement issued on Monday and signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Billy Ishaya La'ah, alongside the Secretary, Danbaba Katuka, the Forum said preliminary reports indicated that about 30 people, mostly women and children, were killed when unknown gunmen attacked the community late Sunday night.
The Forum added that several residents sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment, while houses and property worth millions of naira were destroyed after being set ablaze by the attackers.
The association expressed concern that the attack occurred despite the presence of military personnel stationed in nearby Kifin, only a few kilometres from Naridon, questioning how such a large-scale assault could have taken place without being prevented.
According to the statement, the latest incident came less than a month after another deadly attack on Ungwan Magaji in Kamaru, warning that the recurring violence suggests that the current security strategy in the area is inadequate.
The Forum extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, particularly the women and children killed during the attack, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those receiving medical treatment.
It called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to immediately review the deployment of security personnel in Kauru Local Government Area and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Forum also urged the government to provide a lasting solution to the persistent insecurity in Chawai Chiefdom and across Kauru LGA, stressing that residents should not continue living under constant fear of attacks.
It further appealed to the government to take responsibility for the medical treatment of those injured during the incident.
While urging residents to remain calm, the Forum called on community members to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information, cautioning against reprisals.
The statement urged authorities to take decisive action to safeguard lives and property, insisting that the people of Kauru deserve lasting peace.
