The Kaduna State Government has expressed shock and sorrow over the sudden death of veteran journalist Comrade Jafaru Yakubu Maitama, Publisher of TERMS Magazine and National President of the Muslim Media Publishers Association of Nigeria (MMPAN).
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Ahmed Maiyaki, described the late media practitioner as a consummate professional whose contributions to journalism, Islamic media leadership, and nation-building would be deeply missed.
According to the Commissioner, Maitama upheld the highest ethical standards of the profession throughout his career, using his platform to promote peace, objective reportage, and good governance in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.
"On behalf of the Executive Governor, Senator Uba Sani, the government, and the good people of Kaduna State, we offer our deepest sympathies to his immediate family, his close associates, the Muslim Media Publishers Association of Nigeria (MMPAN), and the entire leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, during this moment of grief," the statement read.
Maiyaki prayed that Allah grants the deceased's family, colleagues, and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss, and assured the NUJ, MMPAN, and the family that the state government stands with the media profession in mourning a distinguished professional who used the power of the press for societal progress.
