The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa, has called for deep reflection on Nigeria’s 66 years of independence, with greater attention to security, equity, human capital development and shared prosperity.
In a statement issued to mark Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary, Bawa said the country’s resilience and diversity over the past 66 years should be matched with deliberate efforts to address persistent challenges confronting citizens, particularly in Kaduna State.
He identified investment in healthcare and education as key priorities, calling for what he described as urgent, systemic and results-driven investment in human capital.
Bawa said sustainable development could not be achieved without deliberate investment in people, stressing that access to quality education and healthcare should be treated as essential priorities.
On security, the PDP candidate expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on communities and livelihoods across Kaduna State.
He cited areas including Sanga, Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Lere, saying insecurity had affected farmers, families and children’s access to education.
Bawa acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies but called for stronger institutional capacity, proactive measures and greater collaboration with traditional institutions, community leaders and security agencies.
On the economy, he said sustainable prosperity requires an environment where small businesses can thrive, agricultural value chains are protected and employment opportunities are created.
The governorship candidate also outlined what he described as the principle of equitable distribution of Kaduna State’s resources, saying development should extend across all three senatorial zones and the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.
He said his proposed P.E.O.P.L.E Agenda would prioritise development projects, public appointments, educational support and agricultural empowerment across the state.
Bawa further called for unity, peace and mutual respect among Kaduna residents across ethnic and religious lines.
He congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kaduna State Government and Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for continued peace and prosperity in the country.
Bawa is the PDP candidate for the 2027 Kaduna State governorship election. He emerged as the party’s candidate at its governorship primary in May 2026.
