To lead a team as its Captain or Skipper is not only about wearing the armband.
It goes way beyond that.
A Captain can handle pressure well, make tactical decisions, and communicate effectively with the referee as well as the team.
Not only is the Captain a player, but he is also a leader, communicator, key decision maker, and an important link between the team and coach.
A Captain also generally leads the team out of the dressing room at the start of the match.
A Captain is also tasked with running the dressing room. The Captain generally provides a rallying point for the team:
*Case in point*: If morale is low, it is the Captain who will be looked upon to boost his team's spirits.
So, in essence, a Captain must be able to co-operate with other players;
be able to create unity between the senior and the younger players; must be a "true leader" from the front, who can hold his nerve, use all his experience and guide his team over the finish line.
He must be able to control all his players - DISCIPLINE!
Finally, a true Captain must know how to score from all angles, including from the penalty spot, to win a match or matches for his team and take them up a tournament's ladder!
Every supporter and or fan needs a Captain who leads and can lead his team to VICTORY.
