In order to reduce the family health hazards, preserve deforestation, promote environmental friendly in Kaduna State, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology has organised a One Day Training Workshop on the Use of Technology to reduce Workload for Women.
In her remarks at the training Workshop, the Commissioner Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hajia Rabi Salisu said the training was to build capacity of the rural women who bear the brunt of poor energy access, to enable them become the key drivers of efficient wood stoves usage, and it will also help to promote affirmative climate action in the energy sector.
"The use of the stove will safe the cost of firewood or kerosene, reduce environmental hazards and lead to improved living conditions of the rural women."
She also advised them not to sell the labour saving stove, noting that the equipment is cost effective because it uses less firewood and with the equipment they can produce charcoal by themselves.
"I want to also admonish you, the beneficiaries, to listen attentively and also carefully watch how the equipment is used so that you can teach other women what you people have learnt".
Hajia Rabi explained that the fifty women that benefited were selected from rural communities of the three senatorial zones of the State.
“By embracing clean cook stoves, women in Kaduna state can make significant contribution to achieving the country’s environmental goals while also saving money and promoting sustainable living".
“The urgency of combating climate change and deforestation is a problem that affects everyone, regardless background. One of the major causes of deforestation is the widespread use of firewood, which results in the loss of trees and forests.”
The representative of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, the Director, Biological Services who gave insight into the objective of the Workshop, said the labour saving equipment will reduce the workload in women through the promotion and deployment of the labour saving technology thereby helping them to reduce their tasks at home.
"Available data reveals that women spend an average of 13 hours a day working, therefore a labour saving equipment like this will help reduce their workload".
She implored Stakeholders to embrace this technology and to spread the knowledge gained from the program to others.
