A CALL FOR CAUTION
We have noticed with bewilderment a barrage of unprovoked attacks disparaging the persons of the trio of former Gov Lalong, Gen JT Useni Rtd, and Justice Monica Dongban-Menssem.
Ordinarily, we would have waived it as a non-issue vis-a-vis mere political swipe at General Useni for resisting all forms of inducement to sell out his comrades in the struggle to entrench internal democracy and party discipline in PDP; Gov Lalong for being the leader of APC and Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem for not yielding to the inducement of PDP to influence judgments against reason, logic, and merit of APC cases of structure in their favor, which is before the court of Appeal that she holds sway as President.
However, we have carefully observed that the spate of attacks is alarming as much as it is recurring, well-coordinated, and being perpetrated by one Ukandi Odey and some few non-indigenous journalists resident and enjoying their practice in the peaceful, loving, serene, and hospitable four angles of Plateau State.
For the avoidance of doubt, JT Useni rose through the ranks to become an influential General in the Nigerian Army, Lalong not only served a two-term tenure of 8 years as Governor of the state meritoriously - he was Speaker for more than 7 years (the longest in the history of the state) and presently representing the state as Minister of Labour and Productivity in the Federal Executives Council.
Ditto Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem who is reputed to be the first and only Plateau indigene to occupy the exalted office of the President of the Court of Appeal. Therefore we won't sit lackadaisically and watch people who have come here for a greener pasture bring the hard-earned reputations and career achievements of our leaders and elder statesmen to disrepute and render the image of our dear state opaque and one that disrespects and desecrates the image of her state-men that sacrificed and contributed immensely to Nation building.
While this is a call for caution and a last warning, any attempt to rubbish the personality of any of our leaders regardless of their political affiliation and field of endeavor will be met with equal, opposite, and even stiffer reaction simultaneously - one that is better imagined than said!
