Over 4000 residents of Kaduna-South federal constituency have benefited from the free community eye care services including free medical check-ups and medications as well as surgery organized by Hussaini Kero Foundation in collaboration with Visions Saver Center held at the Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital, Tudun Wada, Kaduna State.
The medical outreach aimed to enhance access to health for the residents in his constituency was to complement the health service delivery to Kaduna South Federal Constituency.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Hussain Abdulkareem Kero said the outreach services are all free to assist the less privileged to regain their sight through the support provided by the organizations.
He explained, “The gains of the free medical outreach include beneficiaries who had visual defects, through cataract or glaucoma, got tested and received free glasses."
We target 2000 people initially. But we have more than that and at the last count it was above 4000 beneficiaries, So we have decided to do this to reach as many people as we can annually,” says Hon. Hussain Kero.
On his part, the medical expert and Chairman of Visions Saver Center, Dr Kamal S. A. Umar explained that the initial target was 2000, and due to the poverty and hardship situation we attend to 5000
"So good, we came on Friday for the medical outreach sponsored by Hussaini Kero Foundation and we have seen so many people where we targeted 2000 but due to the poverty they came more than 5000 people."
Dr Kamal said out of that number over four hundred cataract patients were operated on during the two days of free community eye care services and treatment.
So, we operated 400 with cataracts, over 3000 given medications, and over a thousand short or long-sight patients given glasses, we will really appreciate this program".
According to the Head Medical Team, Dr Kamal Umar said the outreach project is part of the commitment of the Honourable Hussaini Kero's healthcare delivery to his constituency.
“We are here to give back to the community so that they can know their medical status and how to address it.”
