President Bola Tinubu, in a grand gesture of appreciation, bestowed the coveted national award, Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), along with flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and parcels of land, upon the triumphant Super Eagles of Nigeria. The announcement came during a momentous gathering at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, where President Tinubu warmly welcomed the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Leading the delegation was the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.
The Super Eagles, clad in their signature green attire, basked in the honor after their remarkable performance as runners-up in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted by Côte d’Ivoire. The occasion also marked a bittersweet moment for star player Alex Iwobi, who weathered cyber attacks following Nigeria’s loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.
In a statement relayed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu lauded the team, coach, crew, and management for their unwavering dedication and exceptional performance throughout the tournament. He urged Nigerians to unite in celebration of the team's accomplishments, emphasizing the nation's indomitable spirit and boundless potential for greatness.
