A group of farmers in Gubuchi, Makarfi Local Government, Kaduna State, have made a passionate appeal to Governor Uba Sani to intervene in the planned confiscation of their farm lands by a company seeking to cultivate sugarcane.
Mallam Idris Abdullahi Gubuchi, leader of the farmers, explained that they have inherited the lands from their parents and grandparents and have been cultivating them for over 40 years, paying taxes promptly.
However, government officials directed them to vacate the lands for sugarcane farming, threatening their livelihood.
The farmers have filed a court case, and an order has been issued to stop the company from confiscating the lands. A human rights group, "Freedom for Humanity," has also intervened, describing the planned confiscation as "unfortunate" and "targeted at causing grievous injuries to the farm lands."
The group's spokesman, Isma'il Ibrahim, urged the farmers to remain peaceful and threatened to file a case in court if the company proceeds with the confiscation.
The farmers are seeking the governor's intervention to prevent untold hardship and ensure peace in the area.
