Abuja, Nigeria – January 27, 2026 – The Federal Character Commission (FCC) witnessed a formal transition of leadership today as the outgoing Acting Chairman, Hon. Kayode Oladele, handed over to the newly appointed Executive Chairman, Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran.
The handover ceremony at the Commission’s Abuja headquarters follows the swearing-in of Hon. Omidiran by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last Thursday. Hon. Oladele had served as Acting Chairman since July 2, 2025.
In her acceptance address, the new Executive Chairman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and lauded her predecessor’s stewardship.
“I accept this responsibility with a profound sense of honour and commitment,” stated Hon. Omidiran. “I sincerely appreciate Hon. Kayode Oladele for his dedication, stability, and efforts in steering the Commission over the past seven months, ensuring continuity and institutional balance.”
Hon. Omidiran reaffirmed her commitment to the FCC’s core principles, pledging to lead with transparency, fairness, and a focus on national cohesion. She assured commissioners and management of an inclusive leadership approach.
“I look forward to working closely with the entire team to strengthen the Commission and effectively deliver on our constitutional mandate,” she added. Hon. Omidiran previously represented the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019.
Following the ceremony, the official handover documents were submitted to the Commission’s Verification Committee for review. Hon. Omidiran also announced the constitution of new statutory and ad hoc committees aimed at enhancing the FCC’s internal processes and overall effectiveness.
The event was attended by the Commission’s Secretary, Mohammed Musa, state commissioners, key stakeholders, and members of the press.
