Former senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani has won the APC primary election for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, defeating former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, , and another aspirant, Shettima, by a wide margin.
Announcing the results on Monday, the Returning Officer, Barrister Sameera Ibrahim, declared that Shehu Sani secured 9,105 votes to clinch the party’s ticket in the closely contested exercise.
According to the official figures, Zailani polled 1,021 votes, while Shettima received 1,253 votes.
The victory signals a major political comeback for Shehu Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly and is widely recognised for his activism and outspoken stance on governance, democracy and social justice.
Political analysts described the outcome as a significant development ahead of the forthcoming general elections, given the profile of the aspirants involved in the contest.
Supporters of the former lawmaker erupted in celebration shortly after the announcement, expressing optimism about his prospects in the general election.
