Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Usman Shehu Bawa, ABG, has joined fellow opposition gubernatorial candidates in the state to reaffirm their commitment to political freedom, inclusion, and a credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by Yusuf Idris, spokesperson for Shehu ABG, the opposition candidates—including Isa Ashiru of the All Democratic Congress (ADC)—took the position during a meeting in Kaduna, where they raised concerns over what they described as the persecution of opposition figures and the shrinking space for alternative political voices under the current administration.
The candidates emphasized the need to protect fundamental rights, promote political pluralism, and guarantee a level playing field for all parties contesting the forthcoming elections.
They maintained that no government should use state power to intimidate political opponents, restrict legitimate political activities, or undermine citizens' right to freely choose their leaders.
The candidates also clarified that the gathering was not about partisan rivalry but reflected a shared commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring that all political parties can operate without undue interference.
They pledged to strengthen cooperation among their parties, promote peaceful political engagement, and work toward elections that are free, fair, transparent, and reflective of the genuine wishes of the people of Kaduna State.
The candidates reaffirmed their determination to pursue their political aspirations through lawful and peaceful means, while calling on the relevant authorities to ensure an environment in which every party can organize, campaign, and compete fairly.
