Former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Zailani, has pledged to establish an interest-free microfinance initiative to support Qur’anic teachers and scholars in improving their economic well-being.
Zailani made the pledge while addressing members of the Almajiri Care and Empowerment Initiative, led by Gwani Ja’afar Abdulsalam, where he emphasised the need to promote self-reliance, dignity and improved welfare among those engaged in Qur’anic education.
He said the proposed initiative would provide financial support to qualified beneficiaries to establish or expand small businesses, adding that the scheme would be guided by a transparent process to ensure that the funds reach deserving recipients.
According to him, the initiative would involve the organisation’s coordinators across 21 states, with a structured system for identifying beneficiaries and monitoring the use of the funds.
The former Speaker explained that the initiative was part of his broader commitment to religious service and humanitarian activities, rather than a political undertaking.
He also highlighted the challenges confronting Qur’anic teachers and their students, noting that many face economic hardship and social discrimination despite their commitment to religious education.
Zailani called for greater respect and support for the scholars, stressing that their contributions to society should not be undermined by their economic circumstances.
He further disclosed that he currently supports several Qur’anic learning centres, where students receive food and other basic necessities, describing the responsibility as a continuous commitment to religious service.
Reflecting on his political journey, Zailani recalled his first attempt at elective office, when many people doubted his chances of success.
He attributed his eventual success to faith, patience and perseverance, urging the audience to remain hopeful and continue seeking divine guidance in their endeavours.
The former Speaker also offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing hope for his success in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the leader of the Almajiri Care and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria, the National President, Gwani Ja’afar Abdulsalam, commended Zailani for his commitment to religious activities and described his presence at the gathering as a demonstration of respect for Qur’anic scholars.
Gwani Ja’afar also prayed for increased blessings, success and continued service to humanity.
The gathering featured prayers, goodwill messages and calls for stronger collaboration between religious organisations and individuals committed to supporting Qur’anic education and the welfare of its teachers and students.
