France reaffirmed support for ECOWAS military intervention to defeat putschist and restore President Bazoum

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, says 

France strongly and firmly supports ECOWAS's efforts to defeat  coup attempt and restore restore  President Bazoum for the  future of Niger and the stability of the entire region.


Mrs. Catherine Colonna, The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs stated this after she was received, on August 5, 2023, at the Quai d'Orsay, by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou. 


Accompanied  by the Ambassador of Niger to France, Mrs. Aichatou Boulama Kane, Colonna said that the ECOWAS gave the putschists a seven-day deadline to end their coup as she reaffirmed France's full support for President Bazoum, elected by the Nigerien people, and his government, who are the one and only legitimate authorities in Niger.


“France strongly and firmly supports ECOWAS's efforts to defeat this coup attempt. 

The future of Niger and the stability of the entire region as ECOWAS gave the putschists a seven-day deadline to end their coup. 


“It expires tomorrow, Sunday, August 6. France solemnly calls on those responsible for this coup attempt to release President Bazoum and all members of his government, and to allow the immediate return to constitutional and democratic order,”she said.
