To commemorate the International Day of Peace which is to promote peace and strengthen the idea of peace by fostering a non-violent culture among the youth, a Consortium of Civil Society Organizations, (CSOs) took peace education to the football field in Kaduna.
The Kaduna-based CSOs talked to the football players about the importance of peaceful coexistence and conflict prevention.
"The day was founded with a strong aim to create a non-violent and harmonious world. International Day of Peace provides a platform for people and communities to show their contribution towards developing a peaceful world for all".
In line with that commitment, the Consortium of the CSOs includes; the Horizon of Peace Development Initiative, Inclusive Youths and Women Integrity Initiative, and New Hope Agency. Others are Touch a Heart Initiative, Step Forward Charity Foundation, and Life Enlightenment Against Drug Abuse, which organized a football match between Unity and Peace teams at the LEA Primary School, Maiduguri Road, Kaduna.
The match was well attended with, a fine display of football artistry from the players of the two teams that were created as a symbol of "Peace" and "Unity"
One of the coordinators and officials of one of the organizations, Ashafa Abdulkadir described the football match as entertaining, "despite the rains the match went on successful with the first half ending one-all apiece.
After 16 minutes in the game Peace Team took the lead and with 27 minutes to halftime Unity Team cancelled the lead ending the first 45min all square.
At halftime break, experts took the stage taking turns to talk about peace and educate the youth on the dangers of drug abuse and gender-based Violence.
"We urge the players to report any Gender-based Violence or preparator (s) in their communities and the response from the youth players positive, express appreciation and wish for more engagement with moments like this"
At the end of the match, Peace Club emerged the winner from resultant penalty shootouts after the final whistle stopped the match at 2-2.
The players thanked Ashafa Abdulkadir Alabalewe, Barrister Rukayya Abdulazeez, Bashir Muhd, Comrade Salihu Usman, Rilwan Tijjani Bashir, and Malam Muhammed Jidda, among others for the information shared.
