The Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain, welcomed a team from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Health Kaduna State, and a representative of the Ministry for Local Government at the local government Secretariat in Makera.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Local Government, Tijani Iliyasu, Hon. Rayyan Hussain expressed his gratitude to the team for their visit, emphasizing the importance of their mission in combating the recent outbreaks of cholera and other related diseases in the area.
He assured the team of his administration’s full support and cooperation in their efforts to improve public health in Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The council chairman also announced the formation of a sanitation committee dedicated to enhancing environmental hygiene across the local government and highlighted the need for regular and effective sanitation practices to prevent the spread of diseases and protect the health of the community.
Furthermore, Hon. Hussain revealed plans to introduce monthly environmental sanitation exercises, aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness and health consciousness among residents.
He urged the community to actively participate in these initiatives to ensure their success.
The Chairman also stressed the importance of collaboration between the local government and health authorities, noting that such partnerships are crucial for effective disease surveillance and control.
He called on all stakeholders to work together in addressing the health challenges facing Kaduna South, reiterating his commitment to providing the necessary resources and support to the healthcare teams, ensuring that their interventions are successful and sustainable.
Earlier, the healthcare team, led by Dr. Hadiza Temitope Alfred, said they were at the local government for surveillance and control of the outbreaks of cholera and other related diseases.
Dr. Hadiza explained that the necessity of their visit was due to the cholera outbreaks in some wards of Kaduna South Local Government. She highlighted the importance of introducing environmental sanitation to curb the spread of other related diseases.
Dr. Hadiza also pointed out the need for monitoring and responding to disease outbreaks, developing and implementing public health policies, and conducting prompt and immediate testing of borehole water in Kaduna South Local Government
