The Kaduna State Police Command has achieved significant successes in crime prevention and enforcement since the assumption of duty by the 44th Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi, on October 21, 2024.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, the Commissioner outlined the strides made through proactive policing, community engagement, and collaboration with other security agencies.
CP Abdullahi highlighted the arrest of 523 suspects linked to various criminal activities, including 26 kidnappers, 12 cattle rustlers, and 17 car snatchers, among others. During the period under review, the Command recovered five AK-47 rifles, two pistols, a submachine gun, 283 rustled cattle, 20 sheep, and 105 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, 102 kidnap victims were successfully rescued.
In one of its standout operations, the Command, on November 24, foiled a mass kidnapping attempt in Idasu Village, Giwa Local Government Area. Acting on a distress call, police teams engaged the armed bandits in a gunfight, forcing them to retreat into the forest. Eighty-nine victims were rescued unharmed, and a fabricated AK-47 rifle with live ammunition was recovered. One officer sustained injuries during the operation and is receiving treatment.
On October 27, the Kakuri Police Division intercepted a suspicious vehicle along Kachia Road. Investigations revealed it was stolen, leading to the arrest of six suspects. The vehicle has since been returned to its rightful owner, while further investigations continue.
Similarly, on October 30, police in Kafanchan rescued a two-week-old baby abducted from her home in Niger State. The suspects, identified as Evelyn Anthony and her accomplice, were apprehended in Madala following a swift operation. The infant was reunited with her family after a medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, officers from Gabasawa Division apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing cell phones from unsuspecting tricycle passengers on November 20th, 2024. The suspects, Bashir Suleiman and Mohammed Ibrahim, were linked to a receiver in Abuja. One phone was recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
The Command reported successes in cases of robbery, vandalism, tricycle theft, and possession of illegal firearms. Notably, suspects in a railway station vandalism incident and a tricycle theft syndicate were apprehended, with stolen items recovered.
CP Ibrahim Abdullahi commended the officers and men of the Command for their dedication and professionalism. He also expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing critical information that facilitated these successes.
“We remain resolute in our mission to ensure the safety and security of Kaduna State residents. Community policing will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts as we work to tackle all forms of criminality,” he said.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across Kaduna State and called for sustained collaboration with the public in combating crime.
