Kajuru LGA Groups Demand Fair Representation in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency

There is increasing pressure for fair political representation in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, as the Coalition of Pressure Groups and Socio-cultural Organizations in Kajuru LGA calls for immediate action. The coalition has reached out to both federal and state authorities, along with political stakeholders, urging that Kajuru be allowed to produce the next representative for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the upcoming bye-elections.  

This demand arises from over twenty years of what the coalition refers to as “political marginalization,” dating back to the last time a representative from Kajuru held the seat between 1999 to 2003. For the last 21 years, Chikun LGA has consistently occupied the position, despite claims of an informal agreement for power rotation between the two LGAs.  

In a media briefing by the coalition, they pointed out the various challenges facing Kajuru, including a lack of federal presence, underdevelopment, insecurity, and limited access to federal employment and empowerment opportunities. They explained that this marginalization has hindered the area's potential, despite its rich natural and agricultural resources, as well as its untapped tourism opportunities like the famous Kajuru Castle.  

“This exclusion has left Kajuru suffering from inadequate representation, with no significant federal infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, or skill acquisition centers. Our people’s voices are unheard, and their needs remain unaddressed,” they noted.  

The coalition urged the implementation of a power rotation strategy akin to those in other constituencies within Kaduna State, such as Kachia/Kagarko, Sanga/Jema’a, and Giwa/Birnin Gwari to ensure fairness and balanced development. They emphasized that power rotation would not only foster inclusiveness but also enhance the relationship between the two LGAs in the constituency. 

The seat for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency became vacant in mid-2024 due to the passing of the incumbent representative. With bye-elections on the horizon, the coalition is urging political parties to nominate candidates from Kajuru LGA.  

“Kajuru is home to capable, experienced, and philanthropic individuals who have demonstrated their ability to provide impactful leadership. Granting Kajuru this opportunity will ensure that democracy serves everyone in the constituency,” they stressed.  

The coalition specifically called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and other influential political figures, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Senator Lawal Adamu, to step in and support their request.  

The group expressed optimism that with the support of leaders who value justice and inclusivity, Kajuru LGA could finally overcome years of neglect and start to experience significant development.
