Earthwell Africa Initiative has commended the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani for its people-focused free transport scheme, describing it as a transformative intervention delivering both economic relief and environmental benefits to residents.
Founder of the organisation, Mrs. Rashidat Abiola Niyi, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, in Kaduna.
She described the initiative as one of the most impactful and innovative public welfare programmes introduced in the country, noting that beyond easing transportation costs for citizens, the scheme has significantly reduced traffic-related carbon emissions within the Kaduna metropolis by over 38 percent.
According to her, the policy reflects Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to inclusive governance, sustainable urban development, and climate-conscious leadership.
“The free transport initiative is not only improving the living conditions of residents, it is also contributing meaningfully to environmental sustainability and cleaner urban mobility,” she said.
Mrs. Rashidat further stressed the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions and civil society organisations in addressing the growing threats of climate change and environmental degradation.
Responding, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, described Earthwell Africa Initiative as a forward-looking organisation making valuable contributions to climate advocacy and environmental awareness.
He reaffirmed the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to implementing proactive policies and programmes aimed at mitigating climate-related risks and promoting environmental sustainability across the state.
Maiyaki added that the Ministry remains open to strategic partnerships that will deepen public sensitization, strengthen climate communication, and encourage responsible environmental practices among citizens.
