In recognition of the youth as the future of leaders, and the need to attend to their needs and prepare them for future challenges, the World every year commemorates a Day to look at issues around the youth on the 12th of August each year.
Speaking on the significance of the International Youth Day, an accomplished entrepreneur and a young politician from Plateau State, Alhaji Sadiq Ibrahim Jos, said Nigerian Youths are among the brightest in the world, hence the need to look at their issues militating against their potential.
Sadiq Ibrahim who noted that there is a need for youths to acquire skills to attain financial independence, urged them to embrace entrepreneurship in place of white-collar jobs.
He called for the de-prioritization of certificates over skills, urging the country to learn from Germany and China who gave prominence to skills for their advancement.
“I know that education is important but there’s but to acquire it just work with government establishments is not making them attain their full potential and that is achievable if they combine education with entrepreneurial skills that can earn them extra finance”.
“For me I started a business very early in my life and while in school I cherished and sustained the business, making me today an accomplished entrepreneur that provides jobs to over 3000 young Nigerians”.
Alhaji Sadiq praised the contribution of the youths to the national socio-economic development of the country, however, laments over the rush to get the attitude of some youths which he said was counter-productive and a bane on their integrity test”
“Equally, disturbing is the rush to get rich by our youths and their inability to manage family businesses due to lack of self-discipline”.
Sadiq implored parents to continue to instill moral values in their wards and promote what he described as” hands of relationships” like before to sustain peace and friendship.
“Before parents other than yours could discipline you but that is missing nowadays, he stressed.
Alhaji Sadiq Ibrahim Jos congratulated the youths across Nigeria for marking the International Youth Day.
